Walgreens Selects Endeca To Guide Online Shoppers; Market-Leading Commerce Solution Powers Search, Guided Navigation and Merchandising on Walgreens.com

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. --(Business Wire)-- Aug. 23, 2004 -- Endeca, the leading provider of advanced search and Guided Navigation(SM) solutions today announced that Walgreen Co. (NYSE, NASDAQ: WAG) has selected Endeca InFront(R) to provide search, navigation and merchandising across Walgreens.com. The new search solution went live in early August and helps online customers quickly and easily shop for products, find related drug information and uncover general site information.

Endeca InFront offers the most accurate and satisfying commerce search experience available today, and is a proven solution for enhancing customer service and significantly increasing both conversion rates and average sale size. It combines highly accurate and advanced search capabilities with Guided Navigation - a patent-pending discovery technology that leverages characteristics of products and content to dynamically group results and present valid refinement and exploration options. In addition, InFront improves a retailer's ability to offer custom merchandising and promotions based on a shopper's search terms and any resulting Guided Navigation refinements.

For example, a search on Walgreens.com for "baby formula" returns 190 product matches and six site information matches, along with a promotion for a featured infant formula product and health information on enhanced baby formulas. The new Guided Navigation technology automatically categorizes these results on the fly, giving the shopper the ability to quickly filter the results by attributes like brand, price range, "features" (sale items, new products, coupon items) and category/department. By selecting the "Walgreens" option under brand, the shopper can hone their results from 190 to 12 with a click of a mouse.

"Search is a cornerstone to the online customer experience, often serving as an all important starting point for Web shoppers. Walgreen customers' ability to quickly and easily find the right products and information translates into sales and repeat business," said Jim Baum, president and COO of Endeca. "We give Walgreens the ability to deliver an intuitive and highly satisfying shopping experience, while empowering them to boost sales and service across the online channel."

The market-leading e-commerce and multi-channel search solution, Endeca InFront powers fully integrated search, navigation and merchandising on more than 120 leading business-to-consumer and business-to-business e-commerce sites. More of the top 100 Internet retailer sites (as measured by web-only sales in 2003) use Endeca solutions than the next five competing solutions, combined.
